Zuckermann Spinet Harpsichord

Did a little more work on this tonight.  I'm trying to get it all cleaned up so that I can determine what all needs done.  I can see at this point that the major issue is that the string tension has pulled the entire tuning board over to the right.  I am thinking up ways to correct it.

The Jacks removed.

Here's where the problem is.  in fact, the previous owner removed the two main bolts on the left side.  I see now that one actually sheered off.

Both sides are leaning to the right.  Maybe soaking the left and right pieces and then blocking them at perfect right angles would do the trick?

Removed the keyboard.  It needs a general cleaning and some felt replacement.

Just checking out some of the other pieces...

Hello! My parents built this same spinet from a kit in Norway in the 1960's and I inherited it. Despite it's smaller size, the volume was actually too loud for our apartment, so I replaced the metal strings with nylgut strings, availble from Sorli Harpsichords. Not only is the sound softer and somewhat lute-like, the resulting tension on the instrument is less. As your blog dates to 2013, I suspect the rehab is done. :)
