Speakers - Studio Monitors

I've had a pair of speakers I made nearly 20 years ago.  It's time to recycle them into something more usable.  I have removed all the components and made some new boxes for a small bookshelf pair.  Nothing special here.  I just wanted something that was sturdy and functional.  I used truck bed liner paint to give it a hard outer coating.  It remains to be seen if that was a good choice or not.

Bose 501 Repair

So, I picked these up last week for what I thought was a decent price.  I'm getting more and more disappointed with the sound of the small systems with tiny satellite speakers and lacking subs now made by most manufacturers.  I long for the days of my youth and the big sound I remember (false or not).  This is what drove me to purchase these.



They sounded okay when I first hooked them up but I could tell something was wrong.  After doing some exploring, I found that the foam surround on one of the woofers had completely disintegrated.  So, I thought "this is an opportunity to learn something new".  I purchased a refoam kit from Parts Express and went at it.  It turned out great.  The speakers sound great too.  I'm completely satisfied.  Here are the pictures of the job...

Backpacking Mandolin

Finished the bridge and nut last night.  It still needs adjustment but it actually sounds okay.  At least it works as designed and will fulfill the requirements.  The strings are a bit high so there is still more to do.
